The map above shows the languages spoken in the United States and Canada culture region. It is obvious that English is the dominant language throughout this culture region, though French is also extensively spoken. English is the dominant language of this region because Britain once ruled most of the Coastal Plain and parts of Canada, and even after the annexation of both countries, people continued to speak English. France also ruled part of Canada, and when Canada was annexed from France, the population still kept French as a primary or secondary language in Canada. These co-dominant languages were spoken here before the freedom of both countries, and are spoken here because of prior ruling.
